Starting the Journey
Christa first stepped into the world of CrossFit shortly after moving to North Carolina in 2010. Her first encounter with a CrossFit workout came after completing the foundations class. The workout was “Fran,” a challenging combination of thrusters and pull-ups. She recalls it as one of the hardest workouts she had ever done at the time, but it marked the beginning of her CrossFit journey.
For many new CrossFitters, there can be a significant pressure to excel quickly. Christa was no exception. If she could go back and give her newbie self some advice, she would tell herself that it’s perfectly okay to scale a workout and that being time-capped isn’t a failure—it’s a starting point for growth. Everyone starts somewhere, and part of the journey is celebrating where you are while striving for where you want to be.
Embracing the Highs and Lows
When it comes to favorite and least favorite movements, Christa has a love-hate relationship. On one side, she enjoys the challenge and power that comes with complex movements like squat cleans and squat snatches. On the other hand, she admits that push-ups are her nemesis—a wall she hits quickly and an area for her to grow in.
A Personal Triumph
One of the most significant achievements Christa has experienced is her significant weight loss. Through her hard work and determination, she has managed to lose an impressive 45 pounds. This achievement, however, is not the end of her journey but rather a milestone on her path to greater fitness.
Christa’s journey took an unexpected turn in February when she ruptured her Achilles. However, she didn’t let this setback deter her. Instead, she’s focused on rehabilitating and strengthening her Achilles, with the goal of returning to CrossFit competitions.
Her future goals encapsulate the essence of CrossFit: to get stronger, faster, and more confident, all while having fun and enjoying life. And, of course, part of that enjoyment comes from being a member of the supportive and encouraging CrossFit Angier community.
