CrossFit Angier is thrilled to announce our upcoming Hero Week, a week dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who have given their lives in service of our country. This special week will feature a unique Hero Workout of the Day (WOD) each day, each named in honor of a different hero. These workouts will test your strength, endurance, and grit, all while paying homage to the sacrifices these heroes have made.
Our Hero Week begins on Saturday, May 20th, and culminates with the infamous ‘Murph’ workout on Memorial Day. We will rest and recover on Sunday, May 21st, and Sunday, May 28th.
Here’s the lineup:
Saturday, May 20th: Sgt. Brett Gornewicz Hero WOD
Our Hero Week kicks off with a WOD named in honor of Sergeant Brett Gornewicz. Sgt. Gornewicz served as a combat engineer in the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division. He was tragically killed in action on November 3, 2012, in Paktia Province, Afghanistan. This workout is a testament to his sacrifice and the sacrifices of all service members who have given their lives for our country.
Monday, May 22nd: DT
The ‘DT’ workout is in honor of Timothy Davis, a US Air Force Staff Sergeant who was killed in action on February, 20, 2009, in Afghanistan. The workout, named using his nickname, ‘DT’, is a symbol of his dedication and service.
Tuesday, May 23rd: JT
‘JT’ is named after Petty Officer 1st Class Jeff Taylor, a U.S. Navy SEAL who lost his life in Afghanistan during Operation Red Wings in 2006. The workout mirrors the strength and resilience that Jeff displayed throughout his career.
Wednesday, May 24th: Nate
‘Nate’ is a tribute to Chief Petty Officer Nate Hardy, a U.S. Navy SEAL who was killed during combat operations in Iraq in 2008. He was awarded the Silver Star for his heroic actions during the battle.
Thursday, May 25th: Badger
The ‘Badger’ workout pays homage to Navy Chief Petty Officer Mark Carter, who was killed in Iraq on December 11, 2007. Known as ‘Badger’, this workout reflects the fortitude and courage that Mark showed throughout his service.
Friday, May 26th: Bull
‘Bull’ is in memory of U.S. Marine Corps Captain Brandon “Bull” Barrett, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on May 5, 2010. The workout encapsulates the determination and strength that Captain Barrett embodied.
Saturday, May 27th: The Seven
‘The Seven’ is a workout in honor of seven CIA officers who were killed by a suicide bomber at a remote base in southeastern Afghanistan on December 30, 2009. The workout symbolizes their unity, strength, and the ultimate sacrifice they made for their country.
Monday, May 29th: Murph
We will culminate Hero Week with the infamous ‘Murph’ workout on Memorial Day. ‘Murph’ is in honor of Lieutenant Michael Murphy, a U.S. Navy SEAL who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his selfless actions during Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan in 2005.

Let’s take a moment to remember what these workouts truly signify – they’re not merely about pushing our physical limits, but about remembering those who pushed beyond all imaginable limits in service to us all.
Tuesday, May 30th: Rest and Reflect
After the intensity of the previous workouts, we encourage everyone to take this day to rest, recover, and reflect on the true meaning of Hero Week. This is an opportunity to consider the sacrifices made by those we’ve honored, and to carry forward their legacy of courage and dedication in our own lives.
We invite everyone, regardless of fitness level or experience with CrossFit, to join us for Hero Week. It’s about more than exercise – it’s about community, remembrance, and respect.
